Emory Weste’s debut book, Unfix Me, is an absolute stunner. The book tackles tough topics with a ton of heart and humor.
The main characters, Sen and Kai, make the sweetest couple and their hard-fought love story was a pleasure to read.

At twenty years old, Sen didn’t imagine that something could profoundly change his life in a matter of weeks. After he leaves Colorado to attend university, he’s forced to face a truth that his parents attempted to bury a long time ago. Every day, he struggles to piece together his fractured identity and confront his past- the haunting memories of a place that was meant to fix him.
When he crosses paths with Kai, a fearless, openly gay football player, his presence ignites a dormant ember within Sen’s soul. Amidst the whispers of doubt and the suffocating weight of societal expectations, Sen grapples with the profound realization that his identity isn’t broken – t’s beautifully unique.
With Kai, his beacon of hope amidst the darkness, he embarks on a tumultuous journey of self-discovery, navigating the treacherous waters of shame, fear, and societal prejudice. With every step forward, Sen confronts the demons of his past and the daunting prospect of living authentically in a world that seeks to erase his truth.
Unfix Me is the debut work of author Emory Weste.
The book tackles conversion therapy trauma, depression, Alzheimer’s, and parental rejection. All in a way that never felt too heavy.
Did I cry while reading this book? Plenty. Did I laugh while reading this book? Just as much as I cried.
There was a great balance and flow to the story. The fact that this is the author’s first book blows me away.
The love interests are Sen, a young man who has hidden who he is from the world, and Kai, a football player who couldn’t hide who he is even if he wanted to.
And Kai really doesn’t want to. He is proud of who he is, inside and out. Just like his amazing family taught him to be.
When the Sen and Kai first run into each other, very literally, there is a spark between them. Kai dismisses the attraction as he believes that Sen is straight.
At the time Sen also believes that he is straight, so you can forgive Kai for the confusion.
As the two are forced to be around each other more, Sen has to confront his growing attraction to Kai. An attraction that he wishes didn’t exist.
What Sen didn’t expect is just how perfect Kai is.
Kai gives us lines like:
I wanted to know everything about him, learn his likes and dislikes, carry all of his pain for him, and get rid of anyone who had malicious intent.
Emory Weste
Kai handles all of Sen’s insecurities and hang-ups with ease.
Along the way, Sen finds a family in Kai, West (Kai’s best friend), and Brooks (a pre-law student with flowing hair and overbearing parents).
It takes every member of Sen’s found family to save Sen from his “actual” family.
When everything starts to fall apart, Kai comes in with the big lines:
We all have our baggage. Some is just heavier than others and that's why you need two people to carry it.
Emory Weste
Following along as Sen and Kai fall in love is something really special.
Every side character is amazing in this book.I am so relieved that the author has already confirmed both West and Brooks will get their own books.
West’s book, Resist Me, is coming out in November 2024!
Now is the perfect time to jump into this amazing series.
