Lisa Henry and Sarah Honey have collaborated once again to bring us the brand new Alpha Tau series. This series follows a group of dude bros living together in a fraternity house attempting to fall in love.
The first book in the series, The Amazing Alpha Tau Boyfriend Project, is hilarious and heartfelt. It also is the start of what looks to be a series that I can’t wait to continue as new books drop in 2024.

At first glance Archer Calloway is your typical frat boy—preppy, pre-law, privileged. But one thing he’s not is a jerk. So when a shy guy at a wedding gives Archer his number, Archer is impressed by his courage in putting himself out there.
What starts as a courtesy call to the guy turns into friendship. Eli is awesome, and Archer can’t understand why he’s single. With the help of his fraternity brothers at Alpha Tau, Archer comes up with the perfect project for the Get Eli Fuller the perfect boyfriend or die trying.
It’s a flawless plan and nothing could possibly go wrong.
The Amazing Alpha Tau Boyfriend Project is a lighthearted contemporary m/m romance containing banter, bad dates, and an oblivious frat boy who is about to discover something new about himself. Or something.
Uh oh.
This was a fun read! I am a really big fan of frat bro books (e.g. my obsession with the Frat Wars series by Saxon James). I love when a Golden Retriever/himbo type learns he might not be as straight as he once thought. These guys are typically oblivious and hilarious but also sweet and romantic. We get all of that and more in The Amazing Alpha Tau Boyfriend Project.
Archer Calloway is a Golden Retriever in human form. He enjoys having a great time with his bros and loves frat life. Archer always wants fix everyone’s problems. Even when it takes a lot of effort on his part. He isn’t afraid to show up for his friends with a little positivity and elbow grease.
Eli Fuller on the other hand is more acerbic and closed off. He isn’t always sure how to take all of Archer’s kindness and acceptance. Eli has a very different background than the frat legacy, pre-law Archer. He has a lip ring and describes himself and his mother as the rough side of his extended family. None of this stops Archer from essentially adopting Eli.
After spending an afternoon tutoring Eli, Archer is so confused about how in the world Eli doesn’t have a boyfriend. Because he is just so perfect. Yes, Archer is INCREDIBLY oblivious to his attraction to Eli. So Archer makes a plan to get Eli a boyfriend. Too bad the closer Archer gets to succeeding, the less he wants to be successful. But he just can’t figure out why he doesn’t want Eli to end up with anyone else.
These two were so sweet. Eli is clearly in love with Archer early on and then he is stuck waiting for Archer to catch up and realize his own feelings. Even after the two become physical, Archer just can’t see what is in front of him.
"What we had done didn't mean anything. I was just helping him out, no different to giving him somewhere to stay and finding him a boyfriend. I was a helpful guy. So sue me."

When things finally start to come together for these two, it felt like a romance that was hard fought and well deserved.
This was a quick and easy read. I liked the pacing and the lack of drama. The side characters were so fun. Marty in particular really stood out as a hoot. It also looks like the next book in the series will be his, so I am excited to jump into that in early 2024.
Some of the humor didn’t always land for me. There was a joke that was referenced a few times in the book about banana cream pie being the perfect gay dessert. Another about how every family has an uncle with a suit just a little more dapper than everyone else’s. These just didn’t feel super genuine to me, but with the amount of humor in this book, not everything is going to land.
Overall, The Amazing Alpha Tau Boyfriend Project was a great first book in a series that I will definitely continue. Read this book for a hilarious and heartfelt frat boy romance.
I read M/M romance books exclusively, and I help other readers find their next great M/M romance read.
