As A Book Blogger, This Is What I Actually Read This Month – April 2024

Alright, I can admit it. I was not as diligent as I should have been this month.

Do I remember every book I read this month? Ummm, I’m pretty sure?

Did I keep track of the exact days I read them? Nah. That just didn’t happen this month.

Please still love me.

While I was disappointed in my lack of organization and focus, I have decided to give myself grace.

I have also decided to give myself a little planner to actually write down book titles on the days I read them. Let’s see if this helps.

Well, let’s get to the good stuff.

Please do me a favor and just both pretend that the dates listed below are as accurate as I am portraying them.

Bless.

April 1

I started off the month by DNFing Craving the Chase at 20% the very first day of April.

Turns out I was the fool.

I really think it was a case of it’s me not the book. I just wasn’t feeling it.

April 2 – 4

I stumbled across The Traitor’s Mercy by Iris Foxglove when desperate for something akin to Oh, Sacred Dark by Marina Vivancos.

And, this was not it. I DNF’d the book at 47% after three days of slogging through.

I loved the concept of this book and the world it was set in, but, ultimately, it dragged and had a lot of elements that didn’t work for me. Maybe I will try a different book in the same universe later.

April 5 – 6

I DNF’d The Backup Boyfriend by River Jaymes at 12% after trying to read it for two days.

There is absolutely nothing compelling about this book.

It’s harsh, but true.

Maybe that’s why I stoped keeping track of what I read this month? A week into April and all I have to show for it at this point is three DNF’s. Yikes.

April 7 – 12

Prove It was a solid book.

It is a hockey book with enemies-to-lovers vibes. So, it wasn’t a hardship for me to read.

The only thing that was rough was how out-of-character and over-the-top I found most of the hockey players. They kept jolting me out of the story with their ridiculous and completely unbelievable dialogue. I started really skimming those long group chat sections.

But, hey, at least I was able to finish a book.

April 12 – 17

I completely forgot I read Painful Love. Like, I thought I must have just read fan fiction for a few days.

Maybe I just blocked it out? I did finish this book. I had to after how much I loved book one in the series, Hateful Love. But I did not enjoy myself.

I can’t tell you how excited I was for Painful Love. I also can’t tell you how off-put and cringey I found it. Bunky and Whaley had so much potential, but this book really missed the mark for me.

April 17 – 20

I know for a fact that I started Red Flags & Tuesdays on April 17th.

Nordika Night really swings for the fences. Like, I respect her as an author so much.

While this book did feel a little overly long (I started to skim toward the end), so much of it was brilliant that I decided to stick It out.

I will definitely be checking out the rest of the series as it is released.

April 20 – 22

Too Hostile was sweet. I enjoyed the continuation from Hostile

I am a little confused about the title. There was little to no hostility or tension in this book. The vibes were completely different from the first book in the series.

It felt like there was a disconnect between what the author wanted this book to be and what it actually was.

April 23 – 24

Why in the world is This is My Church not blowing up?

Seriously, this was so freaking good! I loved the dynamic between ruffian Lacy and pious Thad. They are the epitome of opposites attracting.

And what they get up to is just wild.

Have I read a single other book in this series? No!

Have I ever even read another book by this author? No!

That doesn’t matter! Everyone should be sprinting to read this book!

You can check out my review forThis is My Church here.

April 25 – 27

Just when I was about to give up on the Puckboys series, Eden Finley and Saxon James dropped Bromantic Puckboy and renewed my obsession with their work.

It was so freaking good!  Equal parts hilarious and heartfelt.

The tone was perfection and the cameo from Robbie (from Saxon James’ Frat Wars: Masters of Mayhem) was everything.

This is the only book that gave This is My Church a run for its money this month.

April 25 – 27

Wild Match was classic Amy Bellows.

The book was good. It didn’t set the world on fire, but I appreciated my time with it.

Falling in love with a famous person is one of my least favorite tropes, but I didn’t mind it here so much. I may check out other books from this multi-author series.

April 28 – 30

I had to start Honeymoon for One after putting together an age gap M/M romance book list.

This book is very good.

I would know. This is the fourth time I’ve read it.

Cheers.

Summary of Reading

So, not a shining star of a month of reading. If you were keeping track that was three DNF’s and eight books read.

At least I didn’t read anything nearly as demented as last month.

It’s the little things.

Hopefully May brings with it good books and a better memory for me.

Hey, I’m Heather!

I read M/M romance books exclusively, and I help other readers find their next great M/M romance read.
