Colin is the sixth and final book in the popular Vampire’s Mate series by Grae Bryan.
It is also the very first book I’ve read from the series.
Having zero context for a lot of the characters and situations mentioned throughout the book honestly made it more fun for me to read.
Let’s jump in to what I thought of this fated-mates M/M/M paranormal romance!

Colin has spent his whole life waiting for something. He doesn’t know exactly what it is, or how to find it—all he knows is that he wants more. When the existence of vampires gives him hope for exactly that, he’s determined to find one for himself. And when he finds out Tucson holds two vampires without mates of their own, he’s willing to do whatever he can to get close.
Fox has spent his whole life looking out for his brother. So when his twin shows signs of bone-deep boredom and ambivalence, who can blame him for wanting to grab on to anything that could bring him back to himself? And if that something happens to be the pushy, prickly blue-haired human on their doorstep—asking to stay, demanding to be fed on—then so be it.
Dane has spent his whole life feeling different. Even as a vampire, he doesn’t quite fit the mold—too attached to his brother, for one, with a platonic, fated bond that can’t be broken. So when a strange human comes into their lives and seems to accept them exactly as they are, who can blame him for starting to hope, just a little, for something… more?
Reading only the last book in a long series is wild.
Honestly, I am not sure that I have ever read a series out of order before this.
So, why did I do it?
There are a few reasons.
For one thing, March has been a super slow month in the M/M romance book release department. I was seriously underwhelmed by the offerings. My TBR list runneth dry.
Another reason that I had to read Colin is that it has a lot of the ingredients I have been loving in my books lately.
It’s M/M/M, which I am a huge fan of (run to check out my best M/M/M romance book list). It has characters that are described as gruff and prickly (my kind of guys). Also, it’s a paranormal romance (I like that).
The final reason that I wanted to read this book is that I recently stumbled across Grae Bryan’s work in the Heart2Heart Paranormal Charity Anthology (see my guide here) and realized that I needed to read more books from her. Why not try the latest one?
So, I took a leap. I read the sixth book in the series first.
Overall, this was a good read. I enjoyed my time with this book.
The twins, Fox and Dane, really made this worth reading, so let’s start with them.
The twins were born in the sixties, so they are relatively young vampires. Since then they have struggled to fit in with other vampires as the two are ‘platonically bonded’. Every one who observes the bond assumes that the brothers are in love with each other and ridicules them for it.
Fox and Dane are never intimate with each other (not that it would have bothered me). But, they do really enjoy finding a man to share.
That’s where Colin comes in.
He was apparently a side character in at least one of the previous books in the series. It was actually pretty fun trying to figure out who knew who and how without any real context.
Colin is a grumpy barista that doesn’t feel comfortable or happy with his life. Something is just missing.
He returns to his home town to take care of his ailing father and once there learns there are some vampires in the area. After a night of drinking he ends up on their doorstep asking the twins to let him move in and to feed on him.
The twins immediately know Colin is special and agree.
They then dance around each other while figuring out what the dynamic is between the three of them.
While all of this is happening, there is a pretty interesting mystery running in the background. Apparently this has been building in the past book or two. Who knows. But, I actually really enjoyed some of the twists and turns with the side plot.
Overall, I liked these three together. Everything felt a little insta-lovey. But, it’s a fated-mates book, so I am not super off put.
Overall, I didn’t feel like I was missing out on a crazy amount by only reading the sixth book in the series. Maybe I’ll do this again some time.
